Online drama series Wadiwa Wepa Moyo has been a breakout hit since it premiered in February. Despite only airing online on the College Central channel on Youtube, the series has attracted a multitude of follows and garnered rave reviews. So good has been the following that the producers of the hit show have now committed to making another season.  Wadiwa Wepa Moyo has already aired 7 episodes and is expected to air three more episodes to complete the first season. The series chronicles, the aspirations, challenges and love lives of young people in ghettos.

The series production manager, Kudakwashe Jani, said that the 21-day national lockdown has proved to be a blessing in disguise as it has resulted in the viewership of the show booming.

Jani told the Chronicle,

“We created a big audience way before the lockdown but the lockdown resulted in a major boost to our viewership.

“Since we now have a big audience, we have been motivated to script season two,”.

Jani said that his production team was now working on getting a deal to have Wadiwa Wepa Moyo flighted on national broadcaster ZBC.

Lead actor Everson Chieza who plays Tawanda (Man Tawa), an aspiring footballer who hopes to play for England’s Manchester United but distracted by love, told the Chronicle,

“Fitting into this character was quite fun because I’ve always wanted to be a soccer player. It was like reliving my dream. The cast made it easy for me to execute the role as they motivated me and gave notes on how best Tawanda could tackle certain scenes and react,”

Tadiwa Bopoto who plays lead actress, Nokuthula (Noku), Tawanda’s love, at first sight, said that she finds it fascinating that she became a celebrity overnight following her role on the show. Said Bopoto,

“Noku is a teenager in high school who moves into a new neighbourhood where she meets Tawanda who loves soccer and dreams of playing for Manchester United one day.

“They fall in love and spend a lot of time together with Noku bunking library sessions and Tawanda bunking soccer practice. Everything, however, starts changing when Tendai, Noku’s ex-boyfriend comes into the picture.”

Some of the other cast members include Dillion Mafukidze who plays Biko — Tawanda’s confidante and football manager, Songstress Lee McHoney who plays the wife of a university lecturer and serial cheat, Ben Mahaka.

Wadiwa Wepa Moyo was shot in Harare at Mabelreign, Sentosa and Haig Park.
