Although she was fairly honoured and celebrated for her success during her colourful days on earth as she scooped several awards, the late legendary actress, Mary Twala, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 80 is still being celebrated by artists and painters across the country as her portraits continue to emerge on social media.

Apart from her life being celebrated through fine arts and fan portraits, the whole nation is in mourning as celebrities and government officials in higher offices have shared their heartfelt condolences on various social media platforms. Her passing has come as a shock to many, as the general public was unaware that she was battling for her life at Netcare Park Lane hospital 7 days prior to her passing.

Mary Twala’s career which spun over a period of 60 years saw her featuring in classic films such as Sarafina, Ubizo, Beat the Drum, and a long list of other classics which have made their mark in the movie industry.  Along with her many accomplishments in the humanitarian and human rights fields, she was also graced with the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2005 for her supporting role in the movie Hopeville and was also awarded the prestigious National Orders Awards by President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2019.

With the news of her sudden passing, her beloved fans all over Mzansi did not only choose to honour their heroine through heartfelt dedications but also paid homage to Mary Twala through artwork such as paintings and portraits and we are sure she could not be more proud.
