South African Men Are Shameless Gold Diggers: Simphiwe Dana Sparks Outrage

Simphiwe Dana Sparks Outrage

South African Afro-Soul musician Simphiwe Dama sparked outrage and caused a furore on social media after she labelled South African men as the ‘biggest gold diggers’. The songstress sent tongues wagging after she claimed that South African men were “the bottom of the barrel” accusing them of even ‘digging’ for maintenance money.

It is not yet clear what had transpired to make Simphiwe Dana take to social media in such a fashion. Writing on social media, the musician said,

“Truth is that South African men are the biggest gold diggers. They even dig the maintenance money,”

Bacele iUber. Ubathengele iairtime. Ubabhatalele irent. They’re driving your car. Using your bank card. And you’re paying all the bills. Shameless. Still have the audacity to go out there and say they’re taking care of you. That you a gold digger. They’re not paying maintenance

Unsurprisingly the tweet did not go down well with many South African men and some women as well and soon the hashtag #SimphiweDanaMustFall was trending. Some social media users responded well and asked the musician not to generalise and to take back her words using civil tones.

However, others were not as cultured and poured vitriol on Dana, making many personal attacks on her as a result. Some resorted to slut-shaming and accused her or sleeping around while others said that she had been burned because she dated much younger men.

However, Dana who seemed to be in a no-nonsense mood was not taking any prisoners and did not pull her punches when responding to her critics. She clapped back at her critics and made it clear that she would not apologise.

Below are some of her responses to critics and trolls.
