Review: How The River’s Zweli Dikana Became Police Commissioner

Hlomla Dandala who plays the role of Zweli Dikana is one of Soapville’s worst police commissioners. He’s even worse than The Queen’s robotic police commissioner; Jerry Maake played by Shona Ferguson and Hector Sebata played by Rapulana Seiphemo.

So, how did he even get the title of a police commissioner?

His wife Lindiwe Dikana secretly secured his job for him. He didn’t need to lift a finger or even bribe anyone for the job, which explains he’s a terrible police commissioner, because his job was handed to him.

The only time we’ve seen Zweli in action was when he was working his Cobra in a previous season. His wife can’t even trust him to get her out of trouble. When his family was held hostage by Mohumi’s army recently, Zweli was useless.

Detective Shabalala is more reliable than Zweli. Zweli’s wife; Lindiwe trusts Shabalala more than her own husband.

When she’s in trouble, she calls Shabalala to take care of things. We’ve hardly seen Zweli going to work, breaking cases, or saving the community.

All he does is follow Lindiwe around the house, to awards ceremonies, and spends her money. He is a yes man, without any questions, some may see this as loyalty, but he actually doesn’t have integrity and a backbone. That’s why he keeps taking Lindiwe back because he’s weak and has no direction.

When anyone attacks or questions Lindiwe’s integrity, Zweli is always ready to defend her because that’s where his bread is buttered. He is nothing without Lindiwe.

Nobody at the police station will even dare come after his job because they’re scared of his wife; Lindiwe, because she will discard them. Lindiwe wears the pants in their relationship.

Watch Hlomla Dandala as Zweli Dikana on The River, on 1Magic, Monday to Friday at 20:00.
